Just as every beautiful story comes to an end, so too is the 23rd Cyprus Film Days International Festival 2025 getting ready to wrap up on Saturday 12 April at Rialto Theatre with a closing ceremony bringing together images, emotions and many awards.
After nine days of coming together and engaging in cinematic exchanges, the festival delivers its final act with the screening of Together Apart by acclaimed Cypriot filmmaker Aliki Danezi Knutsen. The film follows a couple on an isolated island, where the before and after of their relationship intersect.
The end of the screening will mark the beginning of the festival’s official closing with a ceremony curated by interdisciplinary artist Korallia Stergides. Stergides will reassume the persona of Deep Love who “popped” during the opening ceremony and now continues her journey to the big screen as she gently eases us back into reality.
The award ceremony and the winners’ speeches will be followed by a fun and creative wrap party in the SEK parking place, behind Rialto Theatre, featuring video projections and music by the German collective From Berlin With Love.
The awards, according to the verdict of the 5-member international jury, will be presented to films participating in the Glocal Images International Competition Section and the Cypriot Films National Competition Section. The jury is chaired by Aleksandra Bozovic, producer and Director of the Film Centre of Montenegro, and consists of Delphine Leccas, independent film curator and art manager, Hungarian director and scriptwriter György Pálfi, the French co-founder and Director of Les Arcs Film Festival Guillaume Calop, and internationally acclaimed Cypriot actress Agnes Scott.
The seven films included in the international competition along with three Cypriot films will compete for the Best Film Award (€6000), the Special Jury Award (€3000), Best Director Award (€1000) and Best Cinematography Award (€1000 sponsored by Caretta Films). The films in the national competition section will also compete for the Best Cypriot Film Award (€4000 and the right to use The Studio, sponsored by CYENS Excellence Center); Best Cypriot Director Award accompanied by €7000 worth of Post Production Cinema and Platform Mastering Services sponsored by Authorwave; and Best Performance Award in a Cypriot Film (€1000), courtesy of the Municipality of Limassol.
All the films screened in the competition sections are eligible for the Audience Award, decided on viewer votes cast right after each screening, and accompanied by €1500, sponsored by Breaking Wave Productions.
The award ceremony will also include feature length fiction film projects pitched in this year’s 6th co-production forum Dot.on.the.Map Meeting Point. The international jury consists of producers Miloš Lochman, (moloko film, Czech Repupblic), Katya Trichkova (Contrast Films, Bulgaria) and Denis Vaslin (VOLYA Films, The Netherlands).
The following awards will be presented: the Cyprus Film Commission – Invest Cyprus Award (€2000), sponsored by Film in Cyprus; the EKKOMED Award (€2000) sponsored by the Hellenic Film and Audiovisual Center Creative Greece (EΚΚΟΜΕD); the P.S. Movies and Stories Award (equipment rental: €4000) and the Agora Networking Award, sponsored by Thessaloniki International Film Festival. All projects pitched in the context of the co-production forum also compete for the Coprocity Development Award (€3500) presented annually in collaboration with Cineuropa.
